These packages start from three nights and you can add extra nights of course. Our fishing trips take place in Loango National Park, the pearl of Gabon’s parks and the best place in the world for 100 kg+ tarpons!
Loango National Park is the crown of Gabon’s parks and made famous through National Geographic’s photographs of its surfing hippos as well as their coverage in David Attenborough’s ‘Africa’. It is managed by the WCS and the ANPN.
The park is located near the coast of Gabon and comprises over 1.550 km² of almost untouched wilderness including the 220 km² Iguéla Lagoon just north of the park near Omboué. It is bordered by a long coastline with alluring white-sand beaches bordering the rainforest on the east of the coast where we find not only forest, but also savanna and mangrove. The beaches often attract large mammals such as elephants, hippos, buffalos and even gorillas and leopards who try out the sand. Although you have to be lucky, you can even witness some animals going into the sea.
Depending on the season, you can also witness leatherback turtles on the beach and even hatchlings, this is during the rainy season. During the dry season we can see groups of humpback whales and killer whales who come to visit the area to breed. They’re accompanied by several dolphin species who are resident in the area. The combination of wetlands, white beaches, lagoons where rivers and ocean meet, the high concentration of mammals and marine animals, make this truly a remarkable place and Gabon’s signature destinations. None of the neighboring countries offer anything which comes near in terms of beauty and biodiversity.
Loango also is known to be a great spot for sport fishing as all the fish in here seem to be XL-sizes. It has some of the biggest tarpons in the world and we can find many interesting fish such as barracuda, sharks and others. Our Main Lodge is close to the point where the lagoon empties into the ocean and has some of the largest game fish in the world, making it the perfect spot for fishing. There are also some smaller lagoons in the park which are ideal for fly fishing.
We offer traditional night fishing with lures, beach fishing with baits, mainly by night, river mouth fishing night or day, with bait, or lure, or both.
We also offer:
– Classical drift on the lagoon with medium size tackle (40/50 lbs) with lure during the day.
– Light jigging with micro jig or paddle tail in the lagoon night or day.
– Light tackle (15/25 lbs) on the mangrove during the day.
We recommend booking between September and April, during the rainy season peaking with November to February being the best time to catch the biggest tarpons as there are a lot of fish feeding around the mouth of the lagoon. The area has massive versions of fish such as threadfin, crevalle jack, cubera snapper, longfin jack, guitarfish, Senegalese kob and barracuda.
Additional activities are also available if you pay a supplement such as hiring a boat and skipper for offshore fishing – pelagic, and inshore fishing just outside the river mouth. If you want to buy additional fishing hours (besides the 8 hours), this is also possible. Besides fishing you can also reserve safari excursions, kayaking, whale watching, turtle tours and gorilla trekking.
Your package includes accommodation at Loango Lodge, all meals, 8 hours of fishing per day, park fees, guides, fishing boat, domestic flights, road transfers, one-night luxury hotel stay in Libreville. Contact us with the size of your group and dates and we’ll come up with a quote.
