Pointe-Noire Cruise ships activities:
Pointe-Noire shore excursion 1: Tchimpounga Chimpanzee Reserve + Pointe Indienne (Full day)
On this cruise ship activity we visit the Tchimpounga Rehabilitation Reserve, north of Pointe-Noire and located on coastal savannah and forest plains and founded by Jane Goodall in 1992. It is a vital sanctuary dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of orphaned and injured chimpanzees. It provides a safe haven for over 150 chimps, many victims of the illegal bushmeat trade and pet trafficking. Set within a lush, forested reserve, the center offers veterinary care to the chimps living on three river islands designed to mimic their natural habitat. During your stay you will learn about conservation efforts, observe the chimpanzees from a distance, and support rewilding initiatives, making Tchimpounga a beacon of hope for primate preservation in Central Africa.
We leave at 7 am, the road takes at least 1h30 and the visit will last two hours. Afterwards we will go to Pointe-Indienne, a scenic spot on the wild coast north of Pointe-Noire where we’ll have lunch or alternatively closer to Pointe-Noire. Your shore excursion tour will be done somewhere in the afternoon.
