Gabonese Cooking Workshop

If you would like to do something different during your trip allowing you to indulge in the Gabonese culture, make new friends and learn to cook Gabonese food (and eat it!), this is the perfect activity for you.

Gabonese food is a yummy blend of African flavours and French influences and includes staples such as rice and cassava. Meat includes chicken and bush meat such as antelope, wild board and even monkey. Fish is also eaten throughout the whole country, especially near the coast.

Local vegetables as well as European vegetables are made into stews, together with spicy peppers and peanuts. Gabonese are strong at grilling fish and chicken and you should also try some of the local brochettes on the streets. Chicken nyembwé is one of the most popular dishes and is made of ground palm nuts, similar to poulet Mwambe from Congo. Other specialities are cassava leaves, fish stews and many more. You’ll be starting your activity by going to the market with your host to select everything for your meal, giving you the chance to see how locals shop their goods. For this trip you’ll also be using public transport, to truly experience it the local way. Afterwards you’ll be going with your host to her house, where you’ll be cooking together and in the end share your meal. Take advantage of this opportunity to get to know more about your host and her culture.
